This studio welcomes beginner pianists of all ages, to more advanced students, including those who are returning to the piano after years of being away from the instrument. Learning piano can be immensely satisfying; and no prior musical knowledge is necessary to begin.
If youre a beginner, there are piano books that are recommended, however for the first few lessons, music is provided and the given pieces will get your right and left hand moving. Generally, they will be worked separately to start with, but once both hands feel comfortable at the keyboard, and identifying notes is becoming easier, music is introduced that uses both hands simultaneously.
During these first few lessons, you can also expect to learn some basic symbols, like treble and bass clef, time signatures, note values etc, that will really help to make sense of the music. These symbols are universal, and across all genres of Western music, so becoming familiar with each one is a valuable investment.
Piano lessons are designed to increase your musical independence. The more skills you acquire and the ease of playing that comes through reading music, will provide more scope and choice of repertoire at the piano long term. The development of using both hands together also allows for the possibility of playing pieces that were previously inaccessible! As you progress, a dialogue between the two hands starts to appear, and it is a lot of fun hearing the melody coming through or the different combinations of sounds that are created by playing two hands together.
If youre returning to the piano after some years, the relevant knowledge and musicality will still be there; it then take times to develop the necessary skill to match. Returning to repertoire that is indicative of the peak of your previous level of playing, might be too much to work with immediately. It can be more helpful (and twice as fun!) to choose pieces that take your fancy and are inspiring, but not too challenging to begin with.
Lessons that assist in preparation for piano examinations are offered at this studio, with students consistently achieving A and A+. However, examinations are not suitable for everyone, and equal amounts of skill and passion can be found through learning to play for the pure pleasure of it.
